Husqvarna Reviews and Product Guides

Husqvarna Brand Info

Husqvarna began with a royal decree in 1689; a company called Jönköping Rifle Factory. The rifle factory continued to make weapons for three hundred years until 1989. In 1757 Swedish royalty transfers the company to a private owner and the name changed to Husqvarna Rifle Factory. Huskvarna was the first plant located close to the waterfall in Huskvarna, Sweden; certain mechanical operations required hydropower.

The machines used for making weapons in 1872, turned out to be ideal for manufacturing sewing machines. Two years later Husqvarna branched out to kitchen equipment made in cast iron: meat grinders, stoves, and ovens. Over 12 million meat grinders were exported globally. In 1895 they manufactured the first Swedish typewriter.

From 1896 to 1962 the company made bicycles. In 1903 Husqvarna started producing motorcycles until the division was sold in 1986. Throughout the years, their lightweight powerful engines were used in motocross and track racing. In 1982 the MC 258 won the 250cc class Paris-Dakar rally and in ’85 the first prototype of the Husqvarna Rider is manufactured.

In 1918 they acquire Norrahammars Ironworks and expand their product line to boilers and manual lawn mowers. Then they expanded to household appliances (electric stove, dishwasher, and washing machine) and became a household name.

Their first engine powered lawn mower for commercial use was launched in 1947 and the homeowner model in 1959. Forestry was surpassing the demand for motorcycles, mopeds, and bicycles. In the same year, the company started producing chainsaws designed by Swedish designer Sixten Sason. He used motorcycle muffler technology to create a lower noise level. They redesigned the saw and nine years later launched their first power cutter.

Husqvarna was the first company globally to launch a chainsaw with an integrated vibration system, the Husqvarna 180. From 1969 until today, ergonomics is important to the company. Another breakthrough for foresters and loggers was the launch of the 3120XP, one of the biggest and most powerful chainsaws globally, in 1989. Ten years later the TrioBreak safety feature is launched where users can chain break with their opposite hand. Another ten years pass and in 2009 another chainsaw breakthrough is introduced to the market. AutoTune optimizes performance and reduces emissions by regulating the fuel flow.

They were the first to launch the solar-powered robotic lawnmower in 1995. Solar Mower was the predecessor to the Husqvarna Automower.

Electrolux acquired Husqvarna in the late 70s and expanded their power products to include power cutting machines. In the 80s their lawn and garden division expanded with the acquisitions of Poulan/Weed Eater and Roper Corp. The construction business doubled in size when they acquired Diamond Boart International in 2002.

In 2006 Husqvarna became independent again and was listed on NASDAQ OMX Stockholm. Its focus is outdoor power equipment. In 2012 the company introduced the first all-wheel-drive walk-behind lawnmower with superior stability on hills and uneven terrain.

Husqvarna warranties vary from two to five years for homeowners. Husqvarna dealers can assign transferrable warranties to second and third owners.
