Cub Cadet Branded Products and Reviews
Cub Cadet is a brand with a long proud history. Created in 1961, Cub Cadet’s lawn and outdoor garden equipment has been made in the United States. Currently, the company manufacturers products in Mississippi, Tennessee and Ohio. The global research and design center is located in Valley City, OH.
The brand was originally part of International Harvester (IH). Their products were advertised as being tested by “boys – acknowledged by many as the world’s most destructive force!” Their USP was rugged products that could handle a beating and continue to work well.
Unfortunately, both management and the union at IH signed a joint suicide pact during the late 1970’s, contributing to that once great company being forced to sell off assets as it swirled down the bowl to bankruptcy. Cub Cadet was one of the brands sold during that time frame.
MTD purchased the Cub Cadet brand in 1981. For most of the history of ownership, MTD left Cub Cadet as an independent company.
MTD later purchased the Troy-Bilt and Bloens brands in 2001. In recent years, MTD has brought the product lines more “inhouse” along with YardMachnes, YardMan, and the other power tool brands they own.
Stanley Black & Decker purchased 20% of MTD in September 2018, and has the right to purchase the remaining 80% in summer 2021. So far there’s been no impact seen on Cub Cadet by the purchase. As a premium brand, one would think Stanley Black & Decker wouldn’t change much about the wayCubCadet operates.
Cub Cadet has been known for engineering prowess. They were the first to market with 4-wheel zero-turn riding mowers, and normally have products with the smallest turning radius in the industry. They are a leader in the robotic lawn mower industry, having introduced their first product back in 2013.
Cub Cadet has manufactureredproducts for other brands over the years. Lower end Craftsman tools were made by Cub Cadet in the past.
